JOHN SCAFIDE   T

John Scafide was born in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi on June 21, 1911. He attended the University Preparatory School St. Stanislaus College in 1929. He was an lineman for the  Tulane University, and a member of the team that made an appearance in the 1932 Rose Bowl. He was named All-Southern Conference in 1931 and 1932.

John played pro football for one year as a tackle for the Boston Redskins in 1933. He later coached for the Buffalo Bills in the All American Football Conference and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After football, he served as mayor of Bay St. Louis from Bay from 1953 to 1969. He was a retired member of the Mississippi Public Service Commission and a former member of the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission. He was past president of the Mississippi Municipal Association and a member of the Gulf Regional Planning Commission. 

John Scafide was inducted into the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985 and passed away at the VA Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi after a brief illness, on October 24, 1979, at age 68.
