While recovering from surgery during the 1941 season, Nelson Potter was sold to
the Boston Red Sox. Appearing in just 10 games, he compiled a 2-0 record and an
encouraging 4.50 ERA. Unfortunately, the contending Red Sox didn’t see Potter
for what he was — a determined pitcher about to blossom into a very successful
one. Nels joined the Boston Braves in midseason of 1948 and became the
