Pete Cignetti graduated from Malden High School before playing for Boston College.

Nicknamed "Pounding Pete", Pete Gignetti was a hard running fullback and defensive cornerstone of the 1939 Eagles who played in the Cotton Bowl game.

He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 7th round of the 1940 NFL Draft. He played for the Providence Steamrollers in 1940, the Pittsfield Golden Bears in 1941 and Holyoke Golden Bears in 1942.

He then enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He passed away in 1983.
