RABBIT WELLER   B

Louis "Rabbit" Weller was an American Indian and a member of the Caddo Tribe, born in Anadarko, Oklahoma on March 2, 1904.

He was a multi-sport athlete at Arkansas City High School in  Arkansas City, Kansas, and then played football for Arkansas City Junior College from 1925 to 1926.

In 1927, Rabbit attended the Chilocco Indian School, where he once returned seven punts for touchdowns in one game.

He then went to the Haskell Indian Institute in Lawrence, Kansas, where he played football, baseball, basketball and ran track. He was the first three-time football captain and scored thirteen touchdowns of 60 yards or more. At Haskell, Rabbit was All-State for four years and honorable mention All-American in two years. In 1930, he was selected to the "Knute Rockne" All American team.

In 1933 he played as a wing back for the Boston Redskins, rushing for 112 yards and scoring two touchdowns. In 1934, he played in the  American Football League for the Tulsa Oilers.

After retiring from football, Rabbit worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Rabbit Weller was a member of the Kansas All Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 and passed away following a heart attack in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on April 17, 1979, at age 75.
