Sam Busich was born in Lorain, Ohio on November 17, 1913, attended Lorain High School. He went on to play basketball and as an end for Ohio State University, where he was All-Ohio.

Sam played professional football for the Boston Redskins in 1936. He played eleven games for the Redskins in 1936 and caught six passes for 57 yards and one touchdown. He was traded to the Cleveland Rams in 1937, retired briefly and finished his pro career with the Detroit Lions in 1942.

He also played professional basketball for the Columbus All-Americans in the  National Basketball League for one game in 1937–38. 

Sam Busich passed away in Warren, Michigan on February 1, 1991, at age 77.
