WALTER HOLMER   FB

Walter Holmer was born in Moline, Illinois on December 5, 1902. He graduated from Moline High School and went to Northwestern, where he was captain of the football team in 1928.

After graduation, he played for the Chicago Bears for two years and then the Chicago Cardinals for two years. In 1933 he played four games for the Pittsburgh Steelers before coming to the Boston Redskins to finish the season. With the Redskins he played in six games at fullback and rushed for 28 yards and scored one touchdown.

He finished his pro career with the Philadelphia Yellowjackets of the American Football League in 1934.

After his pro career, Walter was the backfield coach at Boston University from 1934 thru 1941. He then became the head football coach at Boston University in 1942, when BU head coach Pat Hanley joined the Marines in World War II. He later became head coach at Colby College from 1947 thru 1950.

Walter Holmer passed away in Chelan, Washington on August 27, 1976. He was 73 years old.
