BOSTON BRAVES
...
SPAHN & SAIN and PRAY FOR RAIN ...
May 24, 1948 ... No
game scheduled ... The Boston Braves won back their prestige
in Worcester by beating the Holy Cross baseball team, 3 to 0 in an
exhibition game. Last year Holy Cross beat the Braves, 9 to 8 and
4500 fans were on-hand today to see if they could do it again. The
Braves scored single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings as they
collected 10 hits off three Crusader pitchers. Holy Cross managed to get only
eight men on base and only one beyond second.
Johnny Beazley and Bobby Hogue did the pitching for the Tribe, supported by a
mixed lineup of regulars and reserves. Earl Torgeson was the main attraction for
local youngsters. He collected three hits in three trips to the plate and the
fourth time was given a pass. The Crusaders collected only four hits off Beazley
and Hogue. |
