BOSTON BRAVES
...
SPAHN & SAIN and PRAY FOR RAIN ...
May 25, 1948 ... A
combination of fog and cold drizzle forced the postponement of
tonight's baseball game between the Boston Braves and the Cincinnati
Reds. About 8 o'clock dense fog descended over Braves Field where
7500 persons had gathered to watch Red Barrett opposed Howie Fox in
the opener of the two game series between Boston and Cincinnati.
Adding to the curtain the fog was a smoke barrage from the neighboring trains
behind the ballpark. There was doubt that the game could be started after a 15
minute wait. After communicating with the weather bureau and Logan Airport it
was found that the fog would become progressively worse, so was decided to
postpone the game.
The Braves had played 15 straight games at home without a single postponement
prior to tonight. They were the last major league team to have a game postponed
at home the season. It is the first time in memory that a team has had a game
ever postponed because of fog. |
