September 2, 1948 ... No game scheduled ... The Braves are a listless baseball team, returning from their road trip with a nine and nine record. As one National League umpire said before the team left Cincinnati, he had never seen a team fighting for a pennant with such a lack of enthusiasm. Behind the scenes lurks a complete lack of spirit. One of the things that bothers the team, is the way that Jeff Heath is kept out of the lineup against lefty pitchers. The Braves players want the power of their outfielder on the field every day. There was an air of unhappiness when Billy Southworth called on Al Lyons to pinch-hit, while Heath was left on the bench. Lyons has not had a hit since being brought here from Milwaukee.

Rookie Glenn Elliott has a couple of bruises from his collision with Ted Kluszewski, but he will be ready to take his regular turn in the rotation. The Braves aren't at all optimistic about Eddie Stanky returned to the club this year. It is rumored that his workouts have not been good and he has had trouble moving at all. His substitute, Sibbi Sisti has filled in well and has started to hit.
