Ernie White missed the entire 1945 season while serving in the Army seeing
action at the Battle of the Bulge. He made it home without crippling injury, but
after returning from the war, Ernie was released by the Cardinals during spring
training because of his continued arm troubles. The Braves signed him a few
hours after his release, however, outbidding several other clubs. Apparently
teams were still thinking that he might rebound ...
