FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
The Eagles beat Fordham on key interceptions

November 12, 1928 ... The Boston College Eagles outlasted the team from Fordham at Fenway Park in a stubborn battle.  One touchdown punch, an interception and a blocked kick allowed the Eagles to overcome the one touchdown the New Yorkers were able to put on the board.  A battle it was with no team ever gaining the advantage of a long successful drive against the other.  Each team got going occasionally but the drives seldom lasted long.  Each had a defensive lapse under the shadow of its own goal posts.

The Eagles scored first in the opening period after Fordham fumbled on their own 20-yard line and Tom Smith recovered the ball for the Eagles.  A quick pass to the three yard line from Charlie Murphy and a score by an end run by Pat Creeden produced the first Eagle touchdown.  Fordham then held the Eagles in check, limiting them to only 40 yards for the rest of the game, while Fordham piled up more than 160 yards to gain its only score. In the second period Fordham made it down to the B.C. eight yard line on a long pass to Joe Fontana.

It took four plays but on the last try, Fordham took it around end to tie the game on a lateral from Larry Dallaire to Al Cullen.  Less than a minute later John Dixon picked off a pass at the Fordham 47-yd line and raced into the end zone for B.C's next score.  The Eagles had five interceptions in the game and this was the first.

Fordham made little trouble after that because they could not produce first downs but was able to also hold the Eagles down.  The final Eagle score happened when Fordham, on fourth down at their own 5-yard line was forced to punt.  The Eagle line charged through and it was Charlie Murphy who blocked Tracey's kick.  As the ball bounded about in the end zone, under the pile was Austin Brosnan and the football which resulted in a touchdown for B.C.  After that Fordham moved up the field like the wind only to have Joe Mirley pick off Dallaire with a key interception.  Later Mirley would intercept another pass at his own 35-yd line for the Eagles.
