“DIARY OF A WINNER”

BUCK O'BRIEN

FENWAY'S FIRST TEAM

April 18, 1912 ... Due to the heavy rain there was no chance to play a game at the new Fenway Park with the New York Highlanders.  In fact, there was no opportunity for either team to work out.

The team had a meeting at 10:30 and resumed again at 3:00. Manager Stahl and a number of players called at the American League office in the afternoon.  President McAleer had four friends who were on the Titanic.

McAleer received telegrams from Detroit, where Cleveland was to open their new ballpark.  President Ban Johnson, Garry Hermann, Charles Comiskey and Charley Sommers all wished him good luck with the opening of Fenway Park.

The Red Sox announced that all tickets for the postponed game could be exchanged for any other game during the season.
