“DIARY OF A WINNER”

FENWAY'S FIRST TEAM

April 19, 1912 ... Acute disappointment permeated the air around Fenway Park as it is a holiday and people from all over New England came to Boston for a double purpose.  First was to see the finish of the Boston Marathon, and then secondly rush over to Fenway Park to see the opening and a great ball game.

Two games were scheduled to be played.  The grandstand was decorated with flags and bunting in celebration for the opening, but a light rain fell at intervals during the morning and when the games were called off, only a small crowd was at the gates.

At noon they called the first game off and at 1:20 the second game was also postponed.  The players, who were at the park went over to see he end of the marathon.
