“DIARY OF A WINNER”

BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

June 7, 1916 ... A general downpour prevented the second game of the Detroit series.  It worked out fine for Bill Carrigan as he knew he would be without Harry Hooper, Jack Barry, and Larry Gardner.  Carrigan spoke in great terms of the way Vean Gregg has pitched lately.

June 8, 1916 ... Jack Barry left the team today to head back to Worcester.  He was quite sore after his workouts and now has the flu bug.  He will rejoin the team in Boston.  Rain cancelled the game again today.  Ernie Shore has come up with a sore arm, and Babe Ruth twisted his back.  Rube Foster, who went home to tend his sick children, will rejoin the team in St. Louis.
