“DIARY OF A WINNER”

Babe Ruth holds down the Yankees

June 22, 1916 ... Babe Ruth was very stingy, allowing the Yankees only three hits, one walk, and whitewashing them in a 1-0 shutout. The Sox played high class baseball, with excellent defense.  Ray Fisher was reached for seven hits, two of which were doubles by Harry Hooper and Hal Janvrin in the third inning.  Janvrin hit one down the left field line, driving home Harry with the game's only run.  Fisher pitched well enough to win, but the Babe pitched better.  Babe was using his head, mixing up speeds, instead of burning them over in the early innings and tiring himself out.  There was good fielding and a nice play by Babe, starting a doubleplay in the second inning.  The game was quick, played in an hour and seventeen minutes.
