“DIARY OF A WINNER”

JACK BARRY

BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS
Jack Barry delivers in the pinch for a walk-off win

July 6, 1916 ... In a strongly contested game today, the Red Sox delivered the winning run with two down in the last inning, by a score of 6 to 5.  Tris Speaker was again greeted as strongly as were the World Champs by the Boston fans.  Rube Foster was hit easily and when Ernie Shore was brought in to stop the attack in the eighth, he did it well and stopped the bleeding.

Jack Barry was the star of the game with some outstanding plays in the field and a clutch hit against the left field wall, to bring in the winning run in the ninth inning.  Everett Scott opened the ninth with a single and went to second on a ground out.  Harry Hooper was intentionally passed before Jack Barry hit a vicious line drive over leftfielder Jack Graney's head at the top of the cliff for the walk-off win.
