BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

July 23, 1916 ... No game scheduled ... Nearly 4000 fans turned out today to see the Syracuse Stars of the New York State League, beat the Red Sox in an exhibition game.  The score was 5 to 2.  Bill Carrigan kept many of his regulars out of the hot sun, taking no chances.  Douglas Smith of Millers Falls, held the Sox to just six hits.  The Stars did not score against Ernie Shore, but counted for four runs against Sam Jones.  The Red Sox play against Toronto tomorrow.  Harry Hooper left for Chicago but will rejoin the team in Cleveland.
