“DIARY OF A WINNER”

HANLAN'S POINT STADIUM, TORONTO

BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

July 24, 1916 ... No game scheduled ... 7000 fans turned out to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Red Sox in a game that ended in a 5-5 tie at the end of nine innings, because the Sox had to meet their train for Cleveland.  Weldon Wyckoff worked for the Sox and would have won easily if the team was trying to win.

Mayor Thomas Church of Toronto hosted the Red Sox on a tour of the city before the game, including a boat trip around the bay.  Bill Carrigan played for Toronto in 1907.  Joe Lannin left early for Cleveland to meet with Joe Wood about rejoining the team.
