BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS
The Red Sox clinch the American League Pennant

October 1, 1916 ... No game scheduled ... The Champions were deprived of actually winning their game to clinch the pennant at home, as the Cleveland Indians defeated the White Sox 2-0, taking away any chance Chicago has of catching the Sox.

Nowhere in Boston was the news of Cleveland's victory received with greater joy, than among the ranks of the Royal Rooters.  Scores of telephone calls spread the news.  More than 300 applications for World Series tickets have been received by the Red Sox and that number will continue to grow. The Red Sox are planning on playing their home games at Braves Field.
