FENWAY PARK |
FENWAY'S FIRST TEAM
July 21, 1912
...
No game scheduled ... Cleveland will be at Fenway Park for
four games with the Red Sox and on Thursday night the team leaves for
their second Western trip, making their first stop in Chicago where they
open next Saturday. Four games will be played in each of the Western
cities, Chicago, St. Louis, Cleveland and Detroit in that order. The
race in the American League has already settled down to four clubs and the Red
Sox are now pretty well satisfied with their chances. The team is in first-class
condition with the pitchers at their best and likely to go through the season in
good shape. Washington has surprised the critics with their good playing and the
Athletics after practically giving up hope of winning out this year, unless the
Red Sox should hit a bad slump. The White Sox are hammering away looking for a
break from the leaders and feeling sure of making a strong finish.
The Red Sox will play 18 of the last 20 games away from home, the last six at
Washington and Philadelphia. It seems to be a matter of keeping in the best
possible condition and continuing to put forth the best baseball possible. |
