“DIARY OF A WINNER”

ERNIE SHORE

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
Ernie Shore blanks the White Sox

July 20, 1915 ... A marvelous job of pitching was turned in by Ernie Shore in a 3 to 0 beating of Chicago, holding them to a clean single by John Collins in the seventh and an infield hit by Buck Weaver in the eighth.  Only two runners saw second base at all.  Everett Scott was back at short and Heinie Wagner at second, replacing Jack Barry and Hal Janvrin, who were inured in yesterday's game.  Eddie Cicotte was the one picked by the White Sox to stop the Speed Boys, but was out-pitched by Shore.  Not only did Shore do his work on the mound, he sent home Scott with the first Red Sox run on a double to left field in the second inning.  The White Sox have not hit Red Sox pitching in this series while their pitchers have been hit easily.  Chicago started by winning the first five games they played in the spring, but the Red Sox have won six of the last seven meetings.
