“DIARY OF A WINNER”

JOE WOOD

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
Joe Wood keeps up pennant stride

July 27, 1915 ... There were showers most of the day that kept the crowd down, but when it stopped raining, the Red Sox beat Chicago 3 to 1.  Lefty Russell pitched for the White Sox against Joe Wood which was a tough task in itself.  The only run made by the White Sox was earned on a pass, a sacrifice, and a single.  The Red Sox made all their runs on miscues.  The fans were ready for a great game based on the reports they received about the road trip.  They were quickly not disappointed when Harry Hooper made a diving catch, running full speed, on a sinking line drive hit by Buck Weaver in the first inning.  Joe was never really in trouble getting Chicago out in order in six of the nine innings.  The only man he passed, led to a run in the sixth inning.
