Jim Scott puzzles Red Sox batters
July 28, 1915
...
Jim Scott and Ernie Shore engaged in a pitcher's duel at Fenway Park and held the the other team's batters to five hits each. Scott was better in not allowing the Red Sox to score a run, while the White Sox managed to hit two consecutive singles and a sacrifice
hit in the third inning to notch a score. The Red Sox had eight moments in the game where a hit might have produced a run, but in each instance, Scott shut the door. No game at Fenway was more harder fought this year, with both teams matching each other in fast plays and
clever fielding. Scott passed five Red Sox batters, not out of wildness, but because of working the corners and just missing. Shore was equally effective and because of one inning lost to a superior match on this one day. |
