“DIARY OF A WINNER”

EVERETT SCOTT

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
Rube Foster shuts out the Browns
and does some hitting

August 12, 1915 ... The Boston Red Sox made it five out of six over the Browns at Fenway Park.  A 4-0 clean cut victory increased their lead in the American League, with Detroit and Chicago sitting idle.  Manager Carrigan pitched Rube Foster against George Weilman in the same match-up that happened the other day, with Foster winning the first meeting also.  When in danger, he managed to tighten up his control and also showed remarkable speed and life on his pitches.  In six of the nine innings, the Browns were disposed of in order. Not only did Foster pitch a shutout, but was largely responsible for three of Boston's four runs, getting doubles in the fifth and eighth innings.  He and Duffy Lewis both hit drives off the left field wall.  His victory was his 15th of the season in 21 games pitched.  Everett Scott was outstanding at shortstop, making many great run and gun plays, including a fine unassisted double play.
