“DIARY OF A WINNER”

BAN JOHNSON

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN

August 30, 1915 ... No game scheduled ... President Ban Johnson of the American League is upset about the stories from Boston that gambling is flourishing, unchecked at Fenway Park and Braves Field.  He vowed to go after the betters and is leaving for Boston tomorrow.  49 people were arrested in Philadelphia for gambling in the past.  Johnson thinks nothing is more detrimental to the sport than gambling.

The Red Sox played an exhibition game against the Toledo Rail Lights and beat them 6 to 1 at Swayne Field.  The 40 degree temperature kept the crowd down to approx 1000 fans.  Vean Gregg and Ray Collins pitched for the Red Sox.
