WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
The Red Sox run away from the humble Athletics
September 2, 1915
...
The meek mannered Athletics submitted gracefully to defeat this afternoon by a humbling score of 8 to 3. The Red Sox jumped out to a quick lead, stopped to rest for a moment, and continued swinging their bats into a big lead and sailing easily for
the rest of the game. Harry Hooper and Dick Hoblitzell attacked the ball, with seven of the 14 hits the Sox batters made. Hooper had four hits including a triple and was superb in the field to lead the way. His batting in the last six games has been remarkably effective.
Connie Mack trotted out Tom Knowlson who previously pitched a great game against the Tigers in his last start, but he had nothing against the Red Sox. Babe Ruth pitched for the Sox and had a good steady game, and but for an error by Speaker and his own wild pitch, would have had a superb
outing. The Red Sox are hitting on all cylinders now, have won 22 of 27, and are anxious to get home. |
