WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
Dutch Leonard shuts out the Athletics
September 1, 1915
...
After a two day rest the Red Sox demolished the Athletics by a score of 6 to 0. Rube Foster was at his best, with perfect support, and went over the line at the end without even breathing hard. Weldon Wyckoff was wild for Philly for four
innings and finally gave way to Jack Nabors, who was quite effective but showed weakness in handling bunted balls. The Sox were quick to jump on that and played on it, bunting quite often. Connie Mack turned out his strongest lineup, but it was Rube Foster who choked out any hope
the Athletics had of being a winner, for the Oklahoma farmer had his speed from the start and dominated Philly hitters.
The Red Sox put up three runs in the fourth inning, when Hobby led off with a single, Lewis was walked, and Larry Gardner bunted for a base hit. Barry was walked forcing in the first run and Foster laid down another bunt which was thrown over the firstbaseman's
head for two more runs. It was "Jack Barry Day" at the ball park to salute their former star, and when he went to bat in the second inning, he was presented with a sliver chest by his admirers.
