ERNIE SHORE |
WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
Ernie Shore tosses a one hitter against Philly
September 9, 1915
...
The Red Sox shook off their slump and played like champs, defeating the Philadelphia Athletics 5 to 0 with Ernie Shore throwing a masterpiece. The Speed Boys played brilliant baseball and took advantage of every opportunity handed to them, to put
points on the scoreboard. The Athletics put out a good team in spite of the fact that Connie Mack is experimenting with many youngsters. The A's on this day were up against one of the best pitched games played this season however. Ernie Shore held them to just one hit, a
single made by Jimmy Walsh, the second man up in the first inning. It was a case of out-in-order for the next 22 batters. Stuffy McInnis drew a pass in the second inning and was doubled up. Lew Malone also drew a walk with two down in the eighth. Shore had great
control, good speed and gave his teammates great confidence so they could relax and hit freely. |
