BABE RUTH |
WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
Red Sox give Mack's men a thumping

The Red Sox had a first class workout by defeating the A's in their final Fenway Park appearance of the year, with a score of 7 to 2. The Red Sox got a three run lead in the first inning and were never seriously pressed afterward, although Philly
scored their two runs on some clever hitting by Stuffy Mcinnis and Rube Oldring, helped out by a wild pitch by Babe Ruth. The Sox played a flawless game defensively. The A's hit Ruth hard as evidenced by seven running putouts by Tris Speaker, who had one of his biggest days in the
field. The defense was great but the offense was equally as good, with the Speed Boys knocking out 13 hits. The Sox two great hitters Ruth and Speaker were denied, while McInnis and Oldring turned in four of the five hits off the Babe. The Sox put the game away in the first
inning with Henriksen's triple, Hooper's RBI single, a pass to Speaker, another hit by Larry Gardner scoring Hooper, and a sac fly by Hobby scoring Speaker. Gardner collected three hits on the day. The smooth playing of the Sox in this series hopefully will now extend when the iron
comes to Fenway. The Indians clubbed the second place Tigers 6 to 2, giving the Sox a 2 1/2 game lead. |
