“DIARY OF A WINNER”

1915 AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
The Red Sox clinch
the American League pennant

September 30, 1915 ... No game scheduled ... The Red Sox became the American League champions, although not playing, by virtue of the St. Louis Browns defeating the Detroit Tigers by a score of 8 to 2.  Carl Weilman won his eighth game of the year and would have pitched a shutout except for three errors made by his fielders in one inning.  Word of the victory reached President Joe Lannin and the team while they were at the Back Bay railroad station, waiting for their 5:30 train to Washington.  A great shout of joy and players running around the platform hugging and slapping each other on the back was the scene.  In the morning, the team had a hard practice at Fenway Park, then went up to the team office to receive their September paychecks. In the afternoon, a number of players went over to see the Braves and Phillies game before leaving for their train.
