JACK BARRY |
WORLD CHAMPS AGAIN
Twice losers in New York
October 4, 1915
...
By clearly out-hitting the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees won both ends of a doubleheader at the Polo Grounds in New York. The Sox were weak with the bat and Dutch Leonard made a poor showing on the mound. Ray Caldwell pitched a good
second game for New York, while Rube Foster blew a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning, allowing New York to come from behind 3 to 2. Everett Scott made numerous fumbles at shortstop, so much so that Hal Janvrin came in to replace him. Jack Barry was obviously rusty with his long layoff
and the whole team lacked any spark.
Phillies' manager Pat Moran was at the game with Grover Cleveland Alexander and after the game went to the Red Sox dugout for a friendly visit with Bill Carrigan. Moran offered the Red Sox the use of the National League Grounds for a Thursday afternoon
workout. The Red Sox declined, having already made arrangement for using Shibe Park, the home of the Athletics. |
