A SEASON TO REMEMBER

Brooks Robinson hits the O's
past the Sox
April 13, 1975
...
Brooks Robinson scored four runs and drilled four hits, including a
two run triple, to lead the Baltimore Orioles to an 11 to 3 victory
over the Red Sox. The Orioles collected 10 of their 15 hits off Luis
Tiant and provided Mike Torrez with a victory in his first American
League start, although he gave up 11 hits. Ken Singleton, who came
to the Orioles along with Torrez from the Montréal Expos, drove in three runs
and had one of Baltimore's five doubles. Dave Duncan and Mark Belanger also had
two RBIs apiece.
Baltimore scored two runs in the second inning, three more in the fourth, and
three in the fifth, when Robinson's fly ball fell safely between Fred Lynn and
Dwight Evans. The Orioles added three more runs in the seventh inning off
reliever, Dick Pole.
Fred Lynn drove in all of the Sox runs with two singles and a sacrifice fly.
Rick Burleson had three hits and Doug Griffin was on base four times.
However, the play of the day was made by Orioles shortstop Mark Belanger, who
fielded a Yastrzemski grounder some 15 feet to the right of second base and was
able to throw him out. |
