Frank Tanana outduels Luis Tiant
May 10, 1975
...
Frank Tanana fired a four-hitter and won a pitchers duel
against Luis Tiant, 2 to 0. Tanana, who has not been scored
upon in two career starts against the Sox, struck out 13 and walked
three, supported by two doubleplays, as he snapped the Sox' six game
winning streak.
Tiant had a perfect game going for five innings and extended his
streak of scoreless innings against the Angels to 23, before
California put together a two run inning in the sixth. The rally
featured doubles by Jerry Remy and Mickey Rivers and stolen bases by
Morris Nettles and Rivers.
Remy's doubled opened the sixth inning with a blooper that sliced to
the left and fell about two feet fair. He moved to third on a
sacrifice and scored on a single by Billy Smith. Tiant then picked
Smith off first, but the Angels kept the inning alive when Nettles
reached on a bunt, stole second and scored on Rivers' hit.
Juan Beniquez collected two of the Sox four hits, with singles in the
sixth and the eighth innings. The only hits off Tanana however were
singles by Rick Burleson and Doug Griffin. |
