Jim Rice and Denny Doyle help
the Sox win
June 14, 1975
...
Jim Rice knocked in the tie-breaking run with a sacrifice fly
in the eighth inning and some good defense by Denny Doyle, led the
Red Sox to a 4 to 3 win in Kansas City and a complete game win for
Luis Tiant.
Lynn provided the Sox with a 3-0 lead with his 11th homer of the
year, extending his hitting streak to 19 games, with Bernie Carbo and
Rick Burleson on base.
The Royals came back with a run in the fourth with consecutive
singles by Amos Otis, John Mayberry and Hal McRae. They came through
again for two more runs in the sixth inning on doubles by Mayberry
and Harmon Killebrew, and a single by Fran Healy to tie the game at
3-3.
The Sox broke the tie in the eighth inning when Carl Yastrzemski
opened with a double, moved to third on a Lynn's fly ball and scored
on Rice's long fly to center field.
Doyle sparkled in the field as he survived a rugged slide from Hal
McRae, to complete a doubleplay and made a diving putout to get
Cookie Rojas. The win put the Sox back out in front by one game in
the AL East. |
