CARLTON FISK HOMERS |
THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
Fisk and Lynn lead the Sox past the Yankees
June 26,
1975 ...
Carlton Fisk, playing in only his fourth game after a year's
absence, slapped a curve ball from Pat Dobson into the left field
screen. Meanwhile Fred Lynn drove in three runs with a triple and a
single to lead the Sox to a 6 to 1 win over the Yankees.
Luis Tiant went all the way to win his 11th game of the year. Tiant
gave up the only Yankee run in the first inning without giving up a
hit. His first pitched nailed Walt Williams on the chest. Williams
went to second on a walk and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris
Chambliss. Bernie Carbo made a miraculous catch, crashing into the
centerfield wall. Luis then settled down and struck out eight Yankees
while giving up seven hits.
The Sox scored three times in the fourth inning. Rick Burleson and
Carl Yastrzemski singled and Lynn scored them both with a triple to
right center that got by Williams. Cecil Cooper's base hit brought in
Lynn and the Sox were up 3-1.
Dobson got knocked out by the Sox in the seventh inning. Fisk lined
his homer and singles by Denny Doyle, Rick Miller, Rick Burleson and
Lynn accounted for two more runs. The rest of the night belonged to
El Tiante, who was at his best. |
