THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The Brewers win in the 10th on
an error
July 3, 1975
...
Fred Lynn's unlikely error on Kurt Bevacqua's 10th
inning single, gave the Brewers a 3 to 2 win over the Red Sox and put
them in a tie with the Sox atop the AL East. It was the Brewers'
sixth win in their last seven games.
Bevacqua lined a single to center and the ball rolled through Lynn's
legs, allowing Robin Yount to come all the way around with the
winning run.
It should have been Rogelio Moret's night, but he let the Brewers
send the game into extras when he walked Hank Aaron in the bottom of
the ninth. Hank was sacrificed over to second by Bobby Darwin and
scored on a double by Gorman Thomas.
Segui came in and ended the inning on two brilliant fielding plays,
but his luck ran out in the tenth. He got both Sixto Lezcano and Don
Money on line drives to left, but tried to get cute with Yount and
walked him. With Yount running, Bevacqua hit the first pitch to
center ... end of game. It was Lynn's second error of the game.
Moret scattered six hits, but gave up a home run ball to Aaron, his
741st, starting the fourth inning and then Cecil Cooper tied the game
in the seventh with a homer off Jim Slaton.
The Sox went ahead in the seventh inning, 2-1 on Rick Burleson's
single and Carl Yastrzemski's double. |
