“DIARY OF A WINNER”

JIM COLBURN

THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The Brewers snap the Sox winning streak

July 29, 1975 ... The Brewers snapped the Sox home winning streak by defeating them 4 to 0. The Sox could only manage seven hits while enduring their eighth shutout of the season.

Jim Colburn was tough in the clutch for the Brewers, shutting out the Sox and forcing them to leave 10 runners on base. Diego Segui got a spot start when Luis Tiant complained of shoulder stiffness. Segui struck out 11 batters, but surrendered homers to Don Money and Darrell Porter in the first inning. Money homered again in the third inning. The last Brewers run came in the fifth on a double, a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch.

Bernie Carbo made the defensive play of the game in the eighth inning. Darrell Porter lashed a drive toward the right field seats and Carbo eased back to the well, jumped up with perfect timing, and caught the ball, falling into the stands.
