Denny Doyle leads the Sox
to their 4th straight win
August 2, 1975 ...
Denny Doyle extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a
double and two singles, scoring two runs and driving in one, to help
the Sox to a 7-2 victory over the Tigers. Doyle tied Fred Lynn for
the longest hitting streak in the American League this season.
Lynn and Carl Yastrzemski each drove in two runs with a double and a
single apiece as the Sox posted their fourth straight win. Rick Wise
picked up his 14th win and his 7th in a row.
The Sox got their first run in the opening inning on singles by Doyle
and Yastrzemski, followed by Lynn's double. Jack Pierce's solo homer
the next inning, got the run back for Detroit. Gary Sutherland then
put the Tigers on top, 2-1, with another solo homer in the fifth
inning.
The Sox knocked out Vern Ruhle with a five-run fifth inning. Rico
Petrocelli reached on a base hit and Ruhle hit Tim Blackwell. Bernie
Carbo and Doyle followed up with hits, that scored Petrocelli and
Blackwell. Yaz doubled down the right field line to bring in Carbo
and Doyle. Lynn greeted Fernando Arroyo with a base hit that scored
Yaz. Petrocelli doubled to the 420 mark in right-center to score Jim
Rice in the seventh inning for the Sox' sixth run.
Wise tired in the eight inning because of the 90-degree heat, issuing
two consecutive walks and needed help from Dick Drago to secure the
win.
The annual fathers-kids game was staged before the game and nobody
got hurt. |
