THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER

Dwight Evans' two hits and Lynn's single, wins
August 22, 1975 ...
Rogelio Moret's four-hitter, a solo homer by Dwight Evans and
run-scoring single by Fred Lynn, were enough to push the Red Sox past
the White Sox at Fenway Park, 2 to 1.
Moret had bouts of wildness in walking nine batters. Chicago had
runners on base in every inning, but Moret pitched his way out of
trouble until the seventh, when the White Sox finally scored their
only run, on two walks and a single by Bucky Dent.
Evans' 12th homer opened the fifth inning and broke up a scoreless
pitcher's duel between Moret and Claude Osteen. Osteen was sharp,
giving up only a double to Evans and a single to Jim Rice in the
first four innings, before Evans drilled his homer into the left
field screen.
The Sox added their second run in the sixth inning when Carl
Yastrzemski singled, stole second, made it to third on Brian
Downing's wild throw trying to cut him down, and scored on Fred
Lynn's (89 RBIs) grounder that bounced past a drawn-in infield for an
RBI single. |
