Reggie Cleveland stops the Sox skid
September 2, 1975 ...
Carlton Fisk returned to the Sox lineup for the first time in
10 days and drove in three runs with a pair of base hits, leading the
Sox to a 7 to 4 victory over the Yankees and snapping a three-game
losing streak in the process.
Fisk, who suffered a split finger when hit by a foul tip, lined a
bases-loaded single to center, capping a four-run third inning. He
the provided another run with an RBI single in the fifth.
Reggie Cleveland spotted the Yankees a 1-0 lead giving up a home run
to Chris Chambliss in the second inning. After giving up a three-run
homer to Thurman Munson in the eighth inning, Jim Burton came in to
pitch for the Sox.
Bob Heise triggered the Sox third inning rally with a one-out single
against Pat Dobson. He scored on Cecil Cooper's double high off the
left-centerfield wall. Denny Doyle singled home Cooper with the
second run and a pair of walks loaded the bases for Fisk. His single
gave the Sox a 4 to 1 lead.
The Sox added another run in the fourth inning on two singles, a
sacrifice bunt and a sac fly to right from Cooper. The next inning
saw the sixth run added on a double by Fred Lynn (39th) and an RBI
single by Fisk. The ly Sox run, their seventh came in the sixth
inning. Rick Burleson doubled and Cooper singled him home. |
