A SEASON TO REMEMBER

The
Indians grandslam the Sox in the finale
September 28,
1975 ...
Alan Ashby's grandslam homer highlighted a six-run
inning that lifted the Cleveland Indians to an 11 to 4 win over the
Red Sox in the season finale.
The Sox gave their regulars a rest and played the second and third
stingers. Steve Dillard, playing second base, singled, stole second
and came home on Bernie Carbo's single in the first inning.
Joe Lis homered after Boog Powell singled in the second to give
Cleveland the lead. But successive singles by Dillard, Andy Merchant
and Carbo and a two-run single by Rick Miller put the Sox back up 4-2
after three innings.
Cleveland then put together a six-run inning in the fifth and added
three more in the eighth to run away from the Sox. The win gave
Cleveland an 11-7 edge over the Sox this season. |
