...
Fred Lynn had an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run
homer in the sixth inning, carrying the Sox to a 3 to 2
victory, and the sweep of a doubleheader from the Minnesota Twins.
Bob Stanley recorded his seventh save and rookie Jim Wright won his
fifth game in the night cap, as Lynn's 16th homer of the season broke
a 1-1 tie.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead when Lynn's single scored Jerry Remy, who had
doubled off Roger Erickson. But Willie Norwood tied the game for the
Twins in the fifth inning with his fourth homer of the season. In the
sixth inning, Jack Brohamer led off with a double and scored on
Lynn's liner into the left field screen. Minnesota pulled to within 3
to 2 in the seventh inning against Wright, when Norwood doubled and
scored on Rob Wilfong's single.
Brohamer led off the seventh inning of the first game, with a double
off Roric Harrison who had replaced Gary Sveum after four innings.
Carl Yastrzemski's third single of the game delivered him with the
winning run in the Sox' 5 to 3 victory. Bill Campbell preserved
Dennis Eckersley's 11 win. |
