Fred Lynn's walk-off homer wins the game

April 17, 1979 ... Fred Lynn blasted a ninth inning home run into the right field stands, giving the Red Sox a 6 to 5 win over the Brewers. It was his sixth homer of the young season.

The Sox trailed 5 to 4 when Jerry Remy led off the ninth with a single off Reggie Cleveland. Rick Burleson sacrificed him over to second base and Lynn pounced on the fifth pitch he saw.

Sixto Lezcano hit a two-run homer and knocked in four runs for the Brewers, including what appeared to be the game winner in the eighth inning off Sox starter, Mike Torrez, breaking a 4-4 tie.

The Sox took a 2-0 lead off Brewers starter, Moose Haas, but Lezcano tied the game up with his homer in the fourth inning. The Brewers took a 4-2 lead in the sixth, but Carl Yastrzemski slugged his 385th career homer to cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jim Rice's sacrifice fly tied the game in the seventh inning, but Jack Brohamer booted Sal Bando's grounder leading off the eighth inning and Lezcano doubled him home for a 5-3 Milwaukee lead and setting the stage for Lynn's heroics.

Tom Burgmeier got credit for the win, pitching one-third of an inning be retiring Cecil Cooper on a foul pop with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning.
