The Red Sox slugged their way to a 12-3 victory over
the Houston Astros. After going up by two runs in the second inning,
on a Christian Vazquez single with the bases loaded and an error by
Jose Altuve, Kyle Schwarber blasted a grandslam homer into the right
field seats, putting the Sox up 6-0. It was the third grandslam by
the Sox in two games, making them the first team to do so in a
postseason series.
The Sox tacked on three more runs in the third inning on an RBI
single by Vazquez and a two-run blast by Christian Arroyo into the
Monster seats.
J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers homered later on, giving the Sox nine
homers thus far in the ALCS, and 20 homers in the postseason, tying
them with the 2004 Astros. Kike Hernandez got two more hits giving
him a postseason .500 BA.
Eduardo Rodriguez surrendered a three-run homer to Michael Tucker and
struck out seven through six strong innings for the Sox. Hansel
Robles, Martin Perez and Hirokazu Sawamura all closed out the Astros
to finish the night.
