ALCS, GAME #2
The Sox hit two grandslam
and walk away with a 9-5 win
October 16, 2021 ...
J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers helped the Sox have a grand
time in Houston, winning 9-to-5, as they both exploded with grandslam
homers. Thus the Sox became the first team in major league history to
hit multiple grandslams in a postseason game.
Martinez made the score 4-0 with his opposite field shot in the first
inning off Astros starter Luis Garcia. Garcia exited with a knee
problem in the second inning and gave the ball to Jake Odorizzi. He
served up another grandslam to Devers, making the score 8-0.
Kike Hernandez added another homer to his scorching postseason resume
in the fourth inning. He has had 16 hits, five homers and four
doubles in the postseason thus far.
Sox starter, Nathan Eovaldi permitted five hits and three runs in his
5 1/3 innings of work. With two outs in the fourth inning, Kyle
Tucker put Houston on the board with an RBI double. Yuri Gurriel
followed with a base hit to right that scored two more runs, making
the score 9-3.
Gurriel and Jason Castro added solo homers in the fifth off Darwinzon
Hernandez, before Ryan Brasier was called upon to put out the fire. |
