The Astros take advantage and
the Sox squander their opportunities

The Red
Sox led
3-1 in the sixth inning, but they didn't take advantage of
opportunities to add to their lead. They went 1-for-9 with runners in
scoring position and left nine men on base, losing 5 to 4 to the
Astros at Minutemaid Park.
Chris Sale lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run and seven base
runners. He gave up five hits with one walk and also hit a batter.
Hernandez then led off the third inning with at homer, tying the
game. The Sox then went ahead 2-1 in the third inning, when Jose
Altuve let a J.D. Martinez grounder get by him, allowing Xander
Bogaerts to score. Rafael Devers reached base and Hunter Renfoe
looped a double down the left field line to score him, making the
score 3-1.
Altuve tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run home run off Tanner Houk
in the sixth inning. Carlos Correa then connected with a homer to
left, giving the Astros a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning.
Kike Hernandez belted his second homer in the ninth inning, to make
it a one run game after Hirokazu Sawamura gave the Astros their fifth
run in the bottom of the eighth. |
