The Red Sox couldn't capitalize on a strong outing by
Chris Sale as Astros starter, Framber Valdez had them beating balls
into the ground, while his teammates continued to turn the tables on
the Sox, winning 9 to 1.
Yordan Alvarez blasted Sale's first pitch of the second inning into
the Monster Seats to put Houston up 1-0. Alvarez then lined a Sale
pitch off the ball in his next at bat in the fourth inning, putting
runners on first and third. But Sale struck out the next two batters
and the threat was squelched.
Rafael Devers broke up Valdez's perfect game in the Sox half and J.D.
Martinez reached after he was hit by a pitch. But Hunter Renfroe
grounded into an inning-killing doubleplay.
The Astros added to their score after Kyle Schwarber dropped a throw
at first and Alvarez capitalized with a two-run double, making the
score 3-0. Sale left and Ryan Brasier took over, but allowed three
more runs. Hansel Robles gave up another run before Devers lined a
homer into the right field grandstand in the seventh for the Sox'
only score.
Yuri Gurriel finished the game for the, now red hot Astros, by lining
a bases-loaded single off Martin Perez in the ninth, making the final
score, 9 to 1.
