ALCS, GAME #6
The Astros shut out the Sox and
win the American League Pennant
October 22, 2021 ...
The Red
Sox were shut out and
knocked out of the race for the American League Pennant, by a 5-0
score. Yordan Alvarez came up huge for Houston with a 4-for-4 night,
slashing an RBI double to deep center in the first inning that was
dropped by Kike Hernandez after a long run. He also came around to
score in sixth inning after a leadoff triple for the Astros' second
run.
Nate Eovaldi turned in a great performance that went unsupported by
the offense, as the Sox bats fell silent again, for the third
straight game. They were held in check, this time, to just two hits
by Luis Garcia. Garcia went 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit, a
two-out triple by Kike Hernandez in the sixth inning that was the
only blemish in his night.
The killing shot for the Sox came in the seventh inning with one out.
Down just 2-0, with J.D. Martinez at third and Alex Verdugo on first,
pinch hitter Travis Shaw struck out as Verdugo took off for second
base. Houston's catcher, Martin Moldanado sprung up and threw a
strike, that cut down Verdugo for an inning-ending doubleplay.
The final nail in the Sox season was a three-run homer by Kyle Tucker
in the bottom of the eighth, that made the score 5-0. |
