“DIARY OF A WINNER”

TOMMY HOLMES AND EDDIE STANKY

BOSTON BRAVES ...
SPAHN & SAIN and PRAY FOR RAIN ...

September 27, 1948 ... No game scheduled ... The Braves received permission to put Ray Sanders on their World Series roster to replace the ailing Jim Russell.  The team got a rousing send off at Back Bay Station where 500 well wishers bade the champs adieu as they left for their last road trip of the season.  By midnight there were 400 fans in line on Babcock Street to get the 3000 Jury Box tickets that will go on sale.
