FOOTBALL AT FENWAY
October 18, 1947 ... Boston University's bid for national pigskin prominence suffered a rude 62-7 jolt from the Purdue Boilermakers at Fenway Park. It didn't take long to see why Purdue was able to outrush and outplay Notre Dame a week ago. The first time Purdue touched the ball, they were off to the first of their nine touchdowns. Vastly superior in all departments, possessing a large edge in height and weight, Purdue ran as wild as it was able to do. In the second half the Purdue second stringers also ran all over the Terriers in their eagerness to get a chance to play and impress their coaches. The smallest player on Purdue was Harry Szulborski was the most difficult to tackle and produced the longest run of the day, an 85-yard jaunt in the second period. Boston University took the opening kickoff and immediately Bob Hatch was smeared, setting the tone as to what was to follow. If Coach Donelli can take a positive out of the game, it could be that his kickoff return team had plenty of practice as did his punter. |
